On 17 September, the Global Commission on Drug Policy Secretariat, on behalf of Commissioner Anand Grover, delivered the keynote address at a roundtable discussion during the 60th regular session of the Human Rights Council (HRC), organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) with the support of the Global Commission on Drug Policy. The discussion focused on accountability and effective remedies for human rights violations related to drug control efforts, including those committed during the failed “war on drugs”. Participants shared national experiences and challenges, highlighting how tools such as the International Guidelines on Human Rights and Drug Policy can help illuminate effective pathways for reform and operationalize human rights at the national level.
