The Global Commission on Drug Policy participated in the 10th Brandenburg Forum on Drugs and Development Policies – an annual platform fostering dialogue on sustainable and people-centered approaches to drug policy.
Co-organized by the Global Partnership on Drug Policies and Development (GPDPD), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Office of the Commissioner of the German Federal Government for Drug and Addiction Policy, the Government of the Netherlands, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the Transnational Institute (TNI), and the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC), the Forum brought together representatives from governments, international organisations, and civil society for strategic exchanges on current policy trends and international cooperation.
Global Commission Chair Helen Clark contributed a video message to the event, noting the ongoing human, social, and economic costs of punitive drug laws and the importance of persistent advocacy for reform. Anna Tomasi (Global Commission Secretariat) presented the project “Transforming Drug Policy: A Focus on Children and Youth”, outlining future pathways for reform that fully uphold the rights of children and young people.
