Commissioner Adeeba Kamarulzaman, in her role as Chair of the Drug Policy Program Malaysia (DPPM), led a DPPM delegation in a series of meetings with Members of Parliament (MPs) in Kuala Lumpur, focused on reforming Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Over the course of two days, the delegation met with seven MPs, emphasizing the benefits of evidence-based reforms that prioritize prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery over punishment, criminalization and incarceration. The delegation also addressed the benefits of decriminalizing drug use and possession for personal use, while addressing the concerns and misconceptions that often arise in debates on decriminalization and drug policy reform.

These meetings, representing the second round of DPPM’s engagement with Malaysian MPs, generated constructive dialogue and encouraging feedback, with strong expressions of support for strengthening community resilience and advancing health-based responses.
