On 6 April 2026, Commissioner Michel Kazatchkine participated as a speaker in the side event “Preventing Pandemics at Source: a One Health Approach, from Local to Global”, held at the One Health Summit in Lyon.

The event took place in the context of a political summit convened by President Emmanuel Macron to advance the One Health approach in global health.

The side event brought together international organizations, governments, and research institutions. Discussions focused on the role of local communities, cross-sectoral coordination, and sustained investment in upstream prevention as a global public good. While the discussion did not address drug policy directly, it reinforced the importance of integrated, preventive approaches in global health governance.
