3 February 2026 – Geneva, Switzerland

On 3 February 2026, the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations Office at Geneva and the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) convened a high-level event at the Palais des Nations to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2016 UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on drugs.
The event launched IDPC’s report, ‘The UNGASS Decade in Review: Gaps, Achievements and Paths for Reform’, which assesses developments in global drug policy since 2016. Drawing on United Nations data, academic research, and contributions from civil society and community organizations, including a dedicated survey of IDPC members and partners, the report offers recommendations for reform.
The meeting included interventions from H.E. Jürg Lauber, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations Office at Geneva; Mr. Michael Camilleri, Chief of the Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development Division at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), as well as a video message from Global Commissioner and former President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, who authored the foreword of the report.
